About Bob Jordan

Which one?
• Born and raised on the banks of the Pasquotank River.

• First boat at age 10  — a hand-built, 16-ft juniper soundboat. Built by a Colington boatbuilder-fisherman for $100.

• First outboard for above boat at age 11  — a 7.5-hp Kiekhaufer. In 1961, much of the Elizabeth City business district was on the river  — this was practically as good as a driver's license!

• Age 13: I bought the Carolina Hood, a retired racing boat (11-ft at the waterline). It had a Merc 4-cyl, 35-hp and was the 2nd-fastest boat on the Pasquotank  — that 2nd-fastest part always galled me. I still have the Merc.

• Graduated Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA in 1972.

• Somewhere along the line I picked up database programming. This would be handy one day.

• I'm still a resident of Elizabeth City, N.C. and living about 5 miles downstream from the old family home. Still on the banks of the Pasquotank.

The 'boathouse' was not a boat shed, but part of the family home. It is a cottage out among the boats. ...Sunfish on this day.
• In 1995, long before anyone cared about the internet, I decided to put a few notes about my water-based life on the web. My mentor, Dave Silva, quipped "You'll know you have it right when someone asks 'Where do you live?' and your first thought is that you need to show them the web pages." That was the beginning of CoastalGuide.
